Strategic framework and operational best practices for a Fractional Chief Product Officer, a senior leader who provides part-time expertise rather than full-time throughput. The guide argues that the role is most effective when focused on high-leverage outcomes like product strategy, decision quality, and coaching rather than tactical tasks like backlog management. Success depends on establishing clear authority and a consistent cadence, often through a structured 90-day implementation plan that installs a "product operating system." The author warns against common "blind alleys," such as acting as a low-authority advisor or a founder’s assistant, which can lead to executive theater. Ultimately, the source emphasizes that a fractional leader’s value lies in improving investment decisions and building internal capabilities to ensure long-term business alignment.
