At the beginning there were too fast atoms, then extremely accurate atomic clocks and now there is navigation at your phone. These are some of the steps that science had to take to make it easier for us to get where we need and all of them involved physics - professor William Daniel Philllips received Nobel Prize in Physics for his discovery how to slow down atoms with laser. How can you push an atom with light to make it go slower? Why does he believe that universe is a magnificent and beautiful kind of a gift to us? And what kind of experiments did he do in his basement laboratory when he was a boy?
