George Elwood Smith, a laureate of the Nobel Prize in Physics, was an exclusive guest of Hyde Park Civilization. He is a co-inventor of the charge-coupled device (CCD) that has changed our lives forever. It is used on a daily basis - e.g. in phones and cameras, in medicine by physicians, in mapping by geodesists, in telescopes by astronomers looking into the deep of the universe. Yet, its basic structure was done in an hour. How did he come up with such a revolutionary device? What was it like to work at the famous Bell Laboratories? And what were his first words when he found out that he had been awarded the Nobel Prize?
