#8: Samuel Huntington and the clash of civilizations

World-renowned egyptologist Miroslav Bárta and CNN presenter Michal Půr analyse developments in the world. Bárta is the author of the breakthrough theory of the Seven Laws, which can be used to evaluate historical events and judge whether a civilization is in decline or flourishing. One of the lessons is that the collapse of civilization does not necessarily mean catastrophe and may instead be a purifying process. Don't become depressed about world developments and come with us to find hope in historical context.

The study of civilizations and how they work is a fascinating topic that is constantly evolving. The 1990s were, among other things, marked by the intellectual impact of a 1993 article in Foreign Affairs entitled "The Clash of Civilizations?" The author was the American political scientist Samuel P. Huntington. He elaborated on his theory and published it as a book in 1996 entitled The Clash of Civilizations. In it, he argued in particular that after the fall of the Iron Curtain, the interfaces of civilization defined mainly by religion would be the sites of major conflicts. How does his theory correspond to events in the contemporary world? You will find out in today's episode.
