Measuring and controlling pH and EC – interview with Rob Smit from Bluelab Corporation

The correct pH in the root zone allows plants to uniformly absorb available nutrients. The concentration of these nutrients can be significantly revealed by the electrical conductivity (EC) of the nutrient solution or the cultivation medium. It's therefore essential to carefully monitor and, if necessary, adjust the EC and pH to the right values. Listen to the interview with Rob Smith from the Bluelab Corporation, which manufactures EC and pH meters.
00:00:00 Jingle
00:00:24 Bluelab Introduction
00:04:53 pH and EC explanation
00:10:07 Lower or higher pH?
00:13:52 How do pH meters work and how to keep them working properly.
00:22:29 How long can I use an EC and pH meter before the probe has to be changed?
00:27:37 What is the difference between cheap and more expensive pH probes?
00:35:06 Is draining the substrate a good way to measure actual pH and EC?
00:39:49 Pulse meter
00:42:38 Why is pH changing?
00:46:14 EC, pH, and Reverse Osmosis water.
00:47:35 Monitoring and controlling pH.
00:55:13 Rob's position in Bluelab Corporation.
00:57:02 Rob's message for growers.
Note to the podcast:
The interview was recorded at the beginning of 2023. During the year 2023, there were changes in the field of devices with the capability of internet connectivity. The Guardian Connect and pH Controller, which connected to the internet via Bluetooth, discussed in the podcast, are no longer being produced, although they will still be available in the sales network for some time. Both devices have been replaced by the Guardian Monitor WiFi and pH Controller WiFi. In the podcast, you will learn:
